Cross Country Ski Trails, Northwestern Ontario, Canada

Cross-country skiing is a popular Canadian winter adventure sport. Whether you want to glide over open spaces on a frozen lake in Ontario or appreciate the forest in winter, there are endless opprtunities for novice or advanced cross-country skiers. Most of the communities in Northwestern Ontario have developed cross country ski trails. Great trails can be found in Red Lake, Kenora, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, Sioux Narrows, Ignace, Minaki, Dryden and Atikokan. When your visiting on business why not bring your skis with you and take an extra day to do some skiing? Some local volunteer ski clubs offer equipment rentals as well.

Even on the coldest of winter days the forest cover of Northwestern Ontario makes for a day of great skiing. Temperatures in the forest are warmer than in the open and the trees break much of the wind. January through March are the best months to ski as snow cover and temperatures are reasonably predictable.
